Surrogacy in Armenia

Gestational surrogacy in Armenia

Aurum Health Global coordinates gestational surrogacy programs in Armenia for intended parents from around the world. Medical treatment takes place at our partner clinics in Yerevan.

In gestational surrogacy, the person carrying the pregnancy does not provide the egg and has no genetic link to the baby. The embryo is created through IVF using genetic material permitted for your circumstances (the intended parent’s own eggs or sperm, or donor eggs or donor sperm) and then transferred to the surrogate. Medical and legal professionals assess the proposed arrangement before treatment begins.

Who can start a surrogacy program in Armenia?

Armenian reproductive law defines who may use surrogacy. Our programs are built around these rules:

  • Married couples (a legally married man and woman) where the woman has a medical reason that prevents her from carrying a pregnancy.
  • Single women with a medical indication for surrogacy.
  • Single men who will be the biological father of the child.
  • Intended parents living with HIV, using specialized medical protocols at our partner clinic.

The child must be genetically related to at least one intended parent. During your first consultation we review your situation and confirm which program you qualify for.

How Aurum helps

We coordinate matching, appointments, legal documentation, communication during pregnancy and practical support around the birth. The treating team is responsible for clinical care; the scope of agency and legal services is set out in your agreements.

Surrogate matching

We work with surrogates from Georgia, Armenia and the wider region. Under Armenian law (Article 12), surrogates who are Armenian citizens can carry only for Armenian citizens and ethnic Armenians, so international parents are matched with surrogates from Georgia and other neighboring countries. Every candidate is aged 20–38, already has at least one child of her own and goes through medical, psychological and background screening before she can be matched with you.

Medical screening and preparation

  • Full medical diagnostics and infectious disease testing
  • Psychological readiness assessment
  • Cycle preparation and embryo transfer at our partner clinics

Legal coordination

Surrogacy agreements in Armenia are notarized contracts. Our legal partners prepare and review every agreement, explain your rights and obligations, and guide you through parentage documents after the birth.

Coordination of pregnancy care

The pregnancy is supervised by the clinic’s obstetricians. Your dedicated coordinator follows it from the first positive test to delivery and sends you regular medical reports, scan results and updates. Video calls with your surrogate can be arranged when both sides agree.

Delivery and going home

We organize hospital coordination, birth planning, the DNA test required by Armenian law, the birth certificate and support with your baby’s passport and travel documents.

Surrogacy questions

A typical planning range is 12 to 24 months from the first consultation to going home with your baby. Surrogate matching usually takes 3 to 6 months and runs in parallel with embryo creation, followed by about 9 months of pregnancy and a few weeks for documents after the birth.

Legally married heterosexual couples and single women with a medical indication, and single men who are the biological father. At least one intended parent must be genetically related to the child.

The baby is registered after birth on the basis of the surrogacy agreement and a DNA test. Our legal team explains exactly how registration works for your citizenship before you sign.

Yes. Embryos can be created with donor eggs or donor sperm, as long as at least one intended parent provides their own genetic material. Using both donor eggs and donor sperm is only possible in limited cases set by Armenian law.

No. Choosing a baby's sex is not permitted under Armenian law, except in the limited cases set out in Article 11(3): a risk of a sex-linked inherited disease, or a family that already has three children of the same sex.
